KTM Unveils the All-New 990 Duke: The Mid-Size Thriller Taking Inspiration from the Super Duke

KTM has officially introduced the 990 Duke, succeeding the 890 as the brand’s mid-size sporting option designed to deliver thrills on the track and excel on winding country roads. Positioned as the final stepping stone toward KTM’s powerful 177bhp 1290 Super Duke R, the 990 Duke aims to elevate the riding experience with enhanced performance and stability.

  1. Powerful Euro5+ Compliant Engine:
    • The 947cc DOHC parallel twin engine claims 121.4bhp.
    • New pistons, crankshaft, and conrods contribute to improved performance.
  2. Agility and Stability Focus:
    • Benchmarked against the Super Duke for agility and design.
    • Addresses stability concerns from customer feedback on the 890.
    • Maintains 890’s agility while advancing stability.
  3. Stiff Chassis and Suspension:
    • The twin-cylinder motor acts as a stressed member in a rigid powder-coated steel frame.
    • New closed lattice swinging arm enhances stability.
    • Suspension includes compression and rebound adjustable WP Apex 43 forks and a rebound/preload adjustable single shock.
  4. Braking System:
    • 17in rims with Bridgestone S22 tires.
    • 300mm discs with dual radially mounted four-piston calipers.
    • Bosch cornering ABS with Supermoto mode for controlled skids.
  5. Advanced Technology:
    • Three-stage lean-sensitive traction control standard.
    • Riding modes: ‘Rain,’ ‘Street,’ and ‘Sport.’
    • TFT dash with optional Track pack displaying lean angle data, timer, and telemetry stats.
    • USB-C charging port for practical use.
  6. Distinctive Design:
    • Available in ‘electric orange,’ paying homage to the 2005 990 Super Duke V-twin.
    • New headlight design deviates from the traditional KTM Duke look, featuring no outer lens.
    • Integrated light sensor adjusts front running lights based on conditions.
  7. Upcoming Availability:
    • Bikes are expected to be available from February 2024.
