Porsche has introduced its electric Macan, a significant move for the brand’s top-selling model. The EV crossover comes in two versions, the Macan 4 with 402 horsepower and the Macan Turbo with 630 horsepower. Built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) co-developed with Audi, the Macan utilizes an 800-volt electrical architecture for faster charging and reduced copper usage.
Key Features:
- Platform: The Macan is built on the PPE platform, co-developed with Audi, and is expected to be the basis for upcoming Audi EVs, including the A6 and Q6.
- Battery: The EV features a 95 kWh (100 kWh gross) battery with Lithium-Nickel Manganese Cobalt cells, allowing for faster charging speeds of up to 270 kW using an 800-volt DC charger.
- Motors: Both Macan 4 and Macan Turbo use permanent-magnet synchronous motors at each axle, offering 402 hp and 630 hp, respectively.
- Acceleration: The Macan 4 accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds, while the Turbo achieves it in 3.1 seconds (with overboost during Launch Control).
- Charging: With an 800-volt charger, the Macan can charge at up to 270 kW, and at a 400-volt charger, it effectively splits the battery pack, reducing charge times.
- Range: EPA range figures are yet to be announced.
- Suspension: Both variants feature multi-link suspension, standard air springs, and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) adaptive dampers.
- Optional Rear-Wheel Steering: The Macan offers an optional rear-wheel steering system for improved maneuverability at low speeds and stability at high speeds.
- Design: While retaining the Macan’s distinctive coupe-like shape, the design incorporates new Taycan-esque daytime running lights and active aerodynamic elements.
- Interior: The interior features a digital gauge cluster, a wide infotainment screen, popular app support, an optional passenger display, and augmented reality heads-up display.
Pricing:
- The Macan 4 starts at $80,450, and the Macan Turbo is priced at $106,950.
Transition Period:
- Porsche will continue production of the gas-powered first-generation Macan for the US market while ending production for Europe due to EU cybersecurity regulations.
- The introduction of the electric Macan signifies Porsche’s commitment to the electric future and aligns with its performance-oriented EV strategy.
