Review: 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray Electrifies the Sports Car World

The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray isn’t your typical sports car. It takes everything you love about the iconic Corvette and electrifies it, delivering electrifying performance, on-track prowess, and a refined driving experience.

Electric Power Meets American Muscle

The heart of the 2024 Corvette E-Ray is its unique electrified setup. It features an axle-mounted electric motor, a first for a Corvette, that adds 160 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque over the standard C8, bringing the total output to a jaw-dropping 655 hp and 595 lb-ft. This is nearly as much power as the high-performance Z06 and more torque than the McLaren Artura.

The complex setup combines an electric motor powered by a 1.9-kilowatt-hour battery pack with Chevy’s 6.2-liter V8 engine. Power is sent to all four wheels, another first for the Corvette, through an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The result is breathtaking acceleration. The E-Ray can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds and complete a quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds, rivaling supercars like the Z06 and the Ferrari 296 GTB. It achieves all of this with the help of a launch control system that deploys a staggering 1,020 lb-ft of torque from the electric motor when you press the accelerator.

On the Road and the Track

On the road, the E-Ray offers a smooth and balanced ride. Its wide Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season tires provide exceptional grip, yielding an impressive one G of lateral grip. The E-Ray’s all-wheel drive system, with the front and rear axles decoupled, allows for customization, making it feel like a true rear-wheel-drive sports car when desired. The optional Charge+ feature even allows sustained lapping by offering power and regenerative braking simultaneously.

Stealth mode allows for short-range, electric-only driving at up to 45 mph, providing a glimpse into the Corvette’s electric future. However, it’s a bit cumbersome to activate as it must be selected before starting the vehicle.

Visuals and Pricing

Visually, the E-Ray maintains the C8’s iconic styling but with subtle exterior enhancements, unique color options, and wheels that set it apart.

Starting at just over $106,000, the E-Ray is an enticing proposition compared to other electrified sports cars with price tags well above $200,000. It offers hypercar performance, on-track poise, and a more refined driving experience than its counterparts.

The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray blends electrification with American muscle, delivering an electrifying sports car that offers a glimpse of what’s possible in the electric sports car world. With its head-turning performance, this electrified Corvette proves that you don’t have to sacrifice power and speed to embrace electrification.
