Subaru Unveils Track-Focused BRZ Cup Car Basic in Japan

Subaru has reintroduced the track-focused BRZ Cup Car Basic in Japan, offering motorsport enthusiasts a stripped-down version of the BRZ designed specifically for track performance.

Originally launched in 2013, Subaru’s track-ready versions of the BRZ have evolved over the years, culminating in the debut of the BRZ Cup Car Basic in 2022. This latest iteration, based on the second-generation BRZ platform, is tailored for a dual-make racing series in Japan, allowing Toyota and Subaru enthusiasts to showcase their driving skills.

The BRZ Cup Car Basic features enhancements from Subaru’s STi division, aimed at delivering optimal performance on the track. Continuous refinement by Subaru’s STi division has fine-tuned the vehicle’s handling and agility, staying true to its ethos of providing a no-frills, track-focused driving experience.

New safety features include the Eyesight Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite, now standard across the BRZ lineup, enhancing driver awareness and responsiveness on the track. The roll cage has been redesigned with enhanced sidebars and a 6-point seatbelt for improved driver safety.

Mechanical components have been refined to withstand track use, with a redesigned roll cage and reinforced sidebars providing enhanced protection. The interior remains stripped of luxuries, with essentials like speakers retained, although certain features like sun visors and side A/C vents are rendered unusable due to the roll cage installation.

Visually, the BRZ Cup Car Basic retains its predecessor’s appearance, featuring signature 16-inch black steel wheels and offered in seven colors. Under the bonnet, a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter boxer engine produces 173 kW and 250 Nm of torque, coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox and standard limited-slip differential with extra cooling fins.

The Subaru BRZ Cup Car Basic is now available in Japan, with prices starting from ¥3,700,400 (approximately R450,502), catering to enthusiasts seeking a high-performance driving experience on the track.
