How to Use Alexa’s Drop In Feature

Amazon’s Drop In feature has become a valuable tool for staying connected with loved ones, especially in households with multiple Alexa-capable devices. Whether you want to check on your kids, keep an eye on elderly relatives, or simply have a quick chat with someone in another room, Drop In allows you to do so seamlessly. However, privacy concerns are paramount, so it’s essential to understand how to set up and use this feature effectively.

Setting Up Your Device for Drop In:

1. Open the Alexa app on your smartphone and navigate to the Device icon at the bottom of the screen.
2. Select the specific device you want to enable Drop In for.
3. Tap the gear icon at the top right corner, then scroll down to and select Communications.
4. Tap on Drop In and choose whether to allow it for permitted contacts, household members only, or disable it entirely.

Granting Permission to Drop In:

1. In the Alexa app, go to More > Communicate and tap on the icon resembling two people at the top right.
2. Navigate to your Contacts screen and select the person you want to grant permission to Drop In.
3. Scroll down to Permissions and toggle Allow Drop In on or off as desired.

Using Drop In:

Once you’ve configured Drop In, using it is straightforward:

1. Activate your Alexa device by saying, “Alexa, drop in on [device name].”
2. For example, to connect with a device named “Kid’s Den,” say, “Alexa, drop in on Kid’s Den.”
3. The device in the designated room will chime, indicating that the Drop In connection has been established.
4. You’ll be able to see and hear what’s happening in the other room through your device, and vice versa if they have a camera-equipped device.
5. To end the connection, simply say, “Alexa, hang up.”

By following these steps, you can make the most of Alexa’s Drop In feature while ensuring that privacy remains a top priority. Whether it’s for convenience, security, or peace of mind, Drop In offers a convenient way to stay connected within your household and beyond.
